New recommendation for colon cancer prevention from 19th April 2019

From 19th April 2019 new measures for colon cancer prevention are applicable:

  • Men above 50 years of age are eligible for preventive coloscopy, up to now above 55 years, due to higher risk of colon cancer than women.
  • Women are entitled to preventive coloscopy from the age of 55 years further on.

Thereafter a new coloscopy is due after 9 calendar years for both groups.

The entitlement to annual faecal occult blood test – iFOBT – remains unchanged for both sexes from the age of 50 and biennial from 55.

Also new, members of the statutory health insurance will receive written invitation to colon cancer program regularly fron July 2019.
